As Nikon Rumors noticed, the first dealers are already listing the new SanDisk CFexpress cards. This is an upcoming standard that is based on the PCI-Express interface and will merge the previously competing standards XQD and CFast. With write speeds of up to 1,400 MB/s, these cards definitely open up many possibilities for uncompressed RAW recording.
It is interesting that the teaser video explicitly and solely aims at 4K RAW recording and definitely shows a Nikon Z6/7 camera from behind, into which a CFexpress card is inserted:
Although it is already known that Nikon will enable an external ProRES RAW recording with the Z6 before the end of this year, this video suggests something completely different: An internal RAW recording with Nikon cameras. The monitor shown is also not an Atomos model with integrated RAW recording, but quite certainly the 4K-capable 5-inch preview monitor SmallHD FOCUS. And it can't record any video at all.
Moreover, the new mirror-less Nikon full-frame cameras can already use CFexpress cards since the last firmware update. So what exactly does SanDisk show us with this video?
