To better handle more demanding recording situations with the iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max, it is recommended to "rig up" the smartphone somewhat – if only for ergonomics. Various products already exist for this purpose, including some from SmallRig – now a new, Transformers-inspired cage solution is available (Megatron Edition). It was shown as a sneak peek at the IBC and can be modularly adapted to different shooting conditions.
SmallRig Transformers Dual Handheld Video Kit
The cage consists of four small individual parts that are quickly assembled via 3 stable pin connections and a twist lock. Two handles can be attached laterally via the HawkLock H11 quick-release fastener and are continuously rotatable; alternatively, just one can be used as a top handle. Wireless control is integrated into one of the two included handles, enabling remote shooting with a single button press.
Thanks to numerous connection options, optional accessories such as a light, microphone, another screen, or similar can be attached. There are 12 1/4"-20 threaded holes and 3 cold shoe mounts available. The use of clip-on lenses or filters is also provided for – the basic package includes two lens adapter plates with T-Mount or 17mm thread compatibility.
