Sony introduced two new portable NVMe SSDs at NAB 2019, which feature USB-C (USB 3.1 Gen 2) read and write speeds of up to 1,000 MB/s (SL-M model) and 540 MB/s (SL-C model), respectively. By using fixed memory, which has no mechanically moving parts, the two new drives can withstand shocks and falls (up to a height of 3 meters) and are dustproof and waterproof according to the IP67 standard due to their robust aluminum housing and are therefore well suited for outdoor use as a storage medium.

To protect the data from foreign eyes, it can be encrypted hardware-supported by AES-256 without loss of speed. The new SL-M and smaller SL-C SSDs will be available in memory sizes of 500GB, 1TB and 2TB from summer 2019, Sony has not yet announced the prices.
