With the instax mini Evo Cinema, Fujifilm is launching a camera in Japan that, 10 years ago, would have had the makings of an April Fool&s joke here. But times are changing, and so we wouldn&t even be surprised if the hybrid instant camera with video function hits a nostalgic nerve, especially among younger generations, as a lifestyle gadget. ![]() Fujifilm instax mini Evo Cinema The camera comes in the form factor of a Super 8 the vertical grip is inspired by Fujifilm&s FUJICA Single-8 from 1965 and can capture both still images and videos. So, instant videos, how is that supposed to work a flipbook? But no, as is often the case, this works via an app: the camera calculates a QR code for the recorded video data and embeds it in a still image cut out from the video. The whole thing is printed as an instax print that can be passed on the (portrait) video plays on the mobile phone when the QR code is scanned. However, the video data must also be uploaded to the internet via the "instax mini Evo" app. It will be available there for two years. ![]() Another analog gimmick is the "Eras Dial" on the Evo Cinema, which allows images to be given 10 looks from different decades, ranging from 1930 to 2020. For example, 1960 is intended to evoke the aesthetic of 8mm film cameras, while 1970 is supposed to conjure up the texture of color televisions from the 70s. In addition to the visual textures, each effect adds "subtle details" such as noise and film flutter to reproduce the feeling of the respective era. The strength of each effect can be regulated in 10 steps via the lens ring. The sound is also processed according to the "Eras Dial" effects, with typical noises such as the whirring of film reels sometimes being added. ![]() Just as 8mm home movies were rather small back then, the image sensor on the Evo Cinema is similarly tiny: the CMOS is a 1/5-inch type. This doesn&t get you very far, so the resolution of the video recordings is 600 x 800 pixels, except in a higher-quality mode (1080 x 1440 pixels), which is only available in combination with the "2020" look. The frame rate is 24fps. Despite its dedicated retro style, the camera also comes with some modern features, such as an LCD monitor on the back for image preview, and it also has autofocus. The instax mini Evo Cinema will be available in Japan at the end of January; Fujifilm has not yet announced a price. deutsche Version dieser Seite: instax mini Evo Cinema - Sofortbildkamera mit Videofunktion |
