The British tripod manufacturer 3 legged Thing presents versatile monopods, which can also be used as a microphone rod, for example. The Trent model offers a remarkable length of 2m when fully extended and supports a maximum load of 30kg. It weighs 0.63 kg and can be pushed together to a packing size of 61 cm. Both ends have dual screw threads (1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16).
Alan (left), Trent (right)
The Alan named model is shorter with max 1.49 m (packing size 45cm), but it should be able to withstand a load of up to 60kg, about 100x its own weight. In addition to carbon fibers, alloys from aircraft construction are used in the design. As with Trent, both the top and the bottom have dual screw threads.
To give the monopods more stability, a separately available foot called Docz with 30cm diameter and lockable ball mount is also available. For Docz, however, a load limit of 20kg is specified, so that it cannot be used with really heavy setups.
The prices are about 147 Euro for Alan and about 80 Euro for Trent. The Docz tripod foot should cost approx. 56.50 Euro. Kits are also available. Delivery is scheduled for August 1.
