If you&re currently browsing our forum, you might think that Nikon has no other topic right now than its own Z-model. However, the Nikon Zf is also still receiving some internal attention, and with it, a fresh firmware update with version number 3.00. And while one might not entirely unreasonably think that this model isn&t *that* interesting for videographers, a glance at the update list reveals a small surprise. ![]() New Firmware Update 3.0 for the Nikon Zf Camera with Film Grain Simulation Among the new features is a film grain simulation, which the following paragraph in the update notes highlights: "In the video recording menu,[Film Grain Options] has been added. You can use this function to record &grainy& videos that simulate the look of traditional film footage." As Nikon has now adopted the good practice of explaining new features with a demo video, you can find more details about the new film grain simulation in the following video: There, one learns that the statically and randomly generated film grain is not visible as a preview on the display or in the viewfinder – but is simultaneously and irrevocably &baked into& the recording. The film grain is adjustable with two parameters, can be combined with Picture Styles, and works for both photo and video recordings. Therefore, this generated film grain should be particularly interesting for users seeking an &out-of-the-cam& retro look. Technically, however, it is rather counterproductive, as it makes the data significantly harder to compress, which ultimately either increases data rates or lowers quality. Nikon is clearly not pursuing the However, this is likely not desired by the targeted audience, as the goal is truly to have the grain as an "Instant Look" on the memory card without any further processing. Nevertheless, it&s certainly interesting that there&s a perceived demand for such a feature directly in the camera. deutsche Version dieser Seite: Neues Firmware Update 3.0 für die Nikon Zf Kamera |
