I have a simple question: I have a DVD from which I would like to take out individual scenes. How can I convert the DVD so I can tinker it a new film?
Where there is a free encoder?

With the freeware one possible way would be:
All Vob files from the VIDEO_TS folder of the DVD with DGIndex (http://neuron2.net/dgmpgdec/dgmpgdec.html)
Project demux and then capture and store.
Sound file (mpa or ac3) in Belight (http://corecodec.org/frs/?group_id=45&release_id=245 # R245)
Open and convert to wave (48Khz), an audio delay (shown in the file name of DGIndex) disposed of there. Video file in VirtualDubMod (http://sourceforge.net/projects/virtualdubmod) open and add the menu under streams-> streamlist-> add the sound file, edit film. And then comes it depends, what do you want to have as an end product of your labors (eg DivX / Xvid or DVD again).

Download them down in Ulead, the 14-day free version of DVD MovieFactory, or buy yourself the previous version of Pearl (9.90 ¬ for so many are not even the dineros http://www.pearl.de/p/KS530-Ulead-Filmbrennerei-4-Deluxe-OEM.html :-)
Thus it is Easiest and without much expertise.
