But when I use Portable DVD, then the discs played without sound.

The laser has nothing to do. Picture and Sound on a DVD stuck in shared files, ie there is no local separate picture and sound tracks such as video cassettes. So if the laser is damaged, you have neither picture nor sound or both are disrupted.

I do synonymous to a sound problem. I have a similar problem. My brother has the video with Nero burned and can be fine on all DVD players and s.PC play, but If I were to edit it with Ulead Video Studio open, it will be played without sound. Even as an audio file it can not burn. Nero tells me I need a special plugin, but what and where?
