My new TFT is great, but has only HDMI and VGA inputs.

Yes it works out.
Had s.alten MacBook via mini-DVI -> HDMI to Full HD Television is connected, went smoothly.
On the MBP now via DisplayPort -> HDMI is synonymous. Only the sound I have extra grind, but you should be at work.

I operate a MacMini as a Media Center in the living room.

If your TV has no option on the HDMI Picture 1:1 (Just so pixels) display, you can only have the Mac Mini s.deinem opposite effect. How do I know that does not, however.
Pointless supplementing with ATI graphics cards is much easier: P

Does anyone know what this can be? Believe your problem is because the Resolution1024 x 768 a 4:3 aspect ratio, but the pixels are not square on your Panal and are thus a 16:9 aspect ratio.
