A Feature-Microphone yes someone holds in his hand. As the design would either the MKE-300 as synonymous with his successor plenty of strange looks (of the cable length apart).

... and times before someone camera interview. Remember, if possible close to go (to the extent it permits the screen), because with increasing distance reduces the sound quality of an interview recording rapidly when Microphone and camcorder directly aneinanderhängen.
At least in one point, I find the MKE 400 is better than its predecessor: The type of Battery. The button cell was against a very common type (AAA = Micro cell) exchanged. For the recording quality, however, I can say nothing, because I neither own microphones.

I own the MKE 300 and can say that the emphasis at this fairly Micro in the medium and high frequencies (300Hz - 1000Hz). This is perhaps usdaran that the transmitted frequency band only starts at 150Hz. Times so if you sometime want to record bass, it is rather not recommended. Otherwise, the recording quality is good - if the line is not unbalanced by a signal disturbed. The MKE 400 seems - according to the technical data - a more balanced frequency band to have. And the 400 in my opinion a bit more looking after toys.
