Depends on what you currently have, if you eg. Ram 2x512MB dual channel then it would be probably good if you have another 2x512MB RAM in dual channel or have the same 2x 1Gb.
If not, of course, you can upgrade to 1.5 Gb, but I would, I think, anyway to upgrade to 2 Gb, while the financially make it.

A normal 2 GB DDR (the name is funny) bars cost about 150 Euros.
