Infoseite // Which Mac for HDV editing is more suitable?

Frage von HZJ:

Hello
Since my Windows PC with the HDV not play along, there is a replacement for. I'd like to synonymous finally switching to Apple to make. A Mac Pro is currently for financial reasons are not yet eligible. For a transitional period, I must therefore with slightly weaker hardware go.
The Power Macs with 2 to 2.5 GHz is used quite favorable, at similar prices as the 2.16 GHz 24 "Intel Core Duo iMacs, the white series. The latter have the advantage of HDTV capable displays, but the disadvantage that only one hard drive can be installed.
The G5 Macs probably expect a bit slower, this is a Festplattenraid no problem and the memory can be expanded synonymous better.
Neither on nor under my work table, there are space problems.

Final Cut software.
Four to six video tracks, plus associated audio tracks must be at least be easy to edit.

Which Mac creates faster and runs better for this purpose?

Greetings, Bernhard

Antwort von PowerMac:

The iMac is better. A new aluminum iMac with 2.4 GHz and 24 "would be optimal. This 2 GB of RAM and any external storage via Firewire 800th

Is FW 800 s.Imac than fast enough to reflect without frame drops in on HDV and export and synonymous to the plate as the working volume to use when cutting?
The 2.4 GHz Imac would be in the price is still acceptable. There are still synonymous in the 2.33GHz white and well preserved. The still have the matte screen with no color.

Frightens me, especially the experience that only an internal hard drive is available from the PC and I know it is just that I use for Windows, the swap file and the mpg files as both an internal panel use.

The Mac is not a PC. Windows Mac OS unequally. Windows-based practice you need and can not receive video files synonymous quiet on the internal disk. What else can you connect many external disks, this is not rocket science. I have ten such external disks. They are so synonymous mobile and portable, such as shooting, demonstrations or customer deadlines.
You ask whether Firewire 800 is fast enough? Very funny, because Firewire 800 is the factor of 25 too fast for that. You can theoretically more than 20 tracks simultaneously.
I recommend the new iMac, because it is faster and cheaper.

Powermac Hello,
as a long-time Windows user, I have learned technical promises only very limited to believe.
It seems that these experiences are hardly transferred on Macs, maybe apart of the slow USB interface.
So I will be the tip with the 24 "Imac accept.

Thanks for the help, Bernhard

I have a few weeks ago the iMAC 20 "2x2, 4Ghz (2GB RAM) increased, especially for Videoschitt - still SD, HDV, but will certainly be made soon. Since I am not the internal disk with the raw clips wants to spam is the consideration whether I am an external FW800 disk dranklebe and everything s.projektbezogenen save files there. Do I expect problems with performance, or does it really easily?
Thanks - eddie

What will not work because it? That works flawlessly. I have some TB external - with all the raw data, project files, render files and versions dealt drauf.

is no problem - I wrote a 2TB RAID 5 via FW800 s.Laufen

cool. Thank you! then I will phatte FW800 mal ne platte growth.

I hope you is clear that a hard drive alone will never FW800 ausreizen ...

So if you have FW800 speed because of the pick, then isses fehlinvestiertes Money.

only 2 HDs run parallel to create the data throughput of FW800
auszureizen.

If only 1 HD should be enough USB 2.0 / FW400! - Protects your wallet;)

But since I have other experiences. I have said since last week 24/2.4.iMac with a FW800 and 2 FW400-plates, of which I have my entire video and audio material on the plate was 800. Since then turns the Mac or FinalCut no longer s.Wheel what with USB 2 and FW400 continually been the case. The RAM is synonymous nor does what (Vollausbau 4 GB), but synonymous with two GB was already quite fast.
But - my only!

I am primarily a question of my internal (320GB) disk with the iMacs are not these huge amounts of data zuzukleistern. If I am synonymous with other solutions feel no difference than if I had the files directly to my (internal) disk, I can live synonymous. I thought s.FW800, since this is apparently fast enough to avoid noticeable performance loss?

Also, the current report on Slashcam HD video editing in the Comparison of Power Mac and Macbook pro has confirmed that the Imac is the better alternative to a G5 Tower. Only a pity that he has no slot for expansion cards.

I order to me so now the 24-inch iMac with 2.4GHz Gravis in October from the month for students and teachers to ¬ 1599. This is even lower than Apple's education.

This brings me to the next question:
What should I consider when selecting a Firewire 800 external enclosure note? Are there different powerful chipsets? I would prefer a housing that at least two 3.5 "hard disks and then summarizes optional Raid 0 and 1 support.

Antwort von PowerMac:

See you at times to dsp-info.com. They synonymous RAID enclosure. Otherwise, do it all icecube housing, such as the Pleiades. They have all the Oxford 911/912-Chip, which is the most powerful.
