why is there so much potential in it
this is not achievable by software conversion is ...

Where is the problem? Nobody has claimed that the quality will be better for the conversion. Nevertheless, it is in a professional environment certainly an advantage of low cost HDMI to HD-SDI to be able to convert.

In a studio environment you can ensure that the HDMI signal - before it comes on the tape - on an HD SDI input of a corresponding cut card and has thus a 4:2:2 signal. Ideal for studio Chromakeying. Intensity One other possibility would be to

Thanks for the replies. It is synonymous to a component output. As I have probably missed.

Somewhere I have read the one from the 4:2:0 not 4:2:2 or even 4:4:4 rausholen can. Is probably a stupid question but where opts for the output quality of the colors - Is the chip or hardware or dependency, the only differences from the used codec?

Btw - What's the difference between composite and component output?
