Why is the pattern so far in the middle and then moved the top to the bottom of moves? And not just the pattern of how it s.war only the beginning of top-down "moved" without left / right to move? Then one would use the mask in the middle no more!

Nope, you do not get "seamless". Mathematical patterns are endless and only the corners of your layers are the problem.
