DVL-Digest 1022 - Postings: Index External Firewire drive Good times (was: Lego movie) External Firewire drive - "Perry Mitchell" From: Ross Jones We have eight of the Granite Digital 2-bay FireVues here and our only complaint is their machining/assembly precision. If you put the same sled in the same slot the connections stay aligned (unless you bang the drive/connection), but when you start swapping sleds around (a feature important to a school lab) often the connectors don't line up and the enclosure cover has to be removed to make it fit/connect. Frustration is not a good thing and students tend to be hard on mechanical parts. At we first we thought screws were missing from the connectors but tech support says they purposely leave them loose/sloppy which I feel is just an excuse for poor tolerances in manufacturing. We've even considered using a hot glue gun and making one sled a master alignment calibration drive. Good times (was: Lego movie) - "Perry Mitchell" From: Rieni It's good to see that at least Lego is still alive!
