I am thinking to buy a monitor. But I am not sure which type I should buy. Let me list all the types I know, and then please give me advise. 1./ Ordinary computer monitor, like Sony Trinitron, which I am using 2./ new style LCD monitor, which is very slim and save me desktop space, but I am not sure if the quality is good for video editing. 3./professional monitor, you know, the type you see in location shooting, usually only about 14 inches or less (the director always holding it). In fact, I want to ask you guys what about this kind of monitors. It looks very professional, or is it? 4./ just buy a TV set and hook it up with my DSR-11 to see the footage. please give me your opinions. Thanks in advance. about different kinds of monitors (2) - "Perry Mitchell" I'm reminded of the introduction of the Trinitron tube in the '70s, whilst I was at the BBC. It was promoted as giving better looking pictures and needing less alignment. Tektronix made a display using a Sony tube to go in the 'monitor bridge' of broadcast vtr consoles, alongside the waveform monitor and vectorscope. The pictures looked great partly because the Trinitron tube tends to suppress visual noise. The trouble is that in this context the operator needs to SEE the noise, and there was a fierce debate with many customers insisting on retaining the shadow mask tube. The bottom line is you need to ask yourself exactly what YOU need in a display and target what is affordable. I'm tattooing it on my wrist as we speak. Ultimate DV NLE System - "Perry Mitchell" From: Daniel Goldschlager I understand DVCPRO50 is 8 bits not 10 bits. I think besides Digibeta the only other 10 bit SD video is D-5 the uncompressed format from Panasonic, from which Panasonic also derives a very good D-5 HD that is superior to DVCPRO-HD for CG jobs.
