Some time ago, I thought I read where it was NOT a good idea > to > try and mix these together with FCP but I might be mistaken. I've done this for years and never had a problem. Just watch out for background processes, like the MS Office database daemon on OS X. Shut 'em down. I have Office 98, Netscape 4.7, Photoshop and Illustrator, CodeWarrior, Resourceror, eye of newt and hair of frog on my OS 9 partition, and Office X on my OS X partition. The only reason the X partition isn't as full of cruft yet is that I haven't had the time to accumulate as many OS X programs. FCP 3 runs fine in either OS, no problems. In OS 9, you can always use Extension Manager to effectively give yourself two different system configurations if you wind up having interference between your apps. Again, I've never had the need. It's important to shut off AppleTalk while editing, at least in OS 9, because AppleTalk is a chatty protocol that eats up CPU cycles. Don't leave file sharing on and hammer the PB from a remote system while trying to capture from or output to tape. But then, bear in mind that any PB you buy today is a LOT more powerful than the Wallstreet G3 I've been working with for the past four years! If you're running OS X on the PB, I'd recommend OS X Mail over Netscape mail, despite the somewhat-funny formatting that occasionally crops up in 10.1's Mail. I find it a cleaner, more streamlined client, and faster than Netscape 6. With 10.2, Mail gains a way cool spam filter. 10.2 also makes file sharing with Windows machines totally simple; no more need for DAVE or PC MacLan. Browse Windows shares in the Connect To dialog alongside Mac shares; turn on file sharing for Windows clients and the Mac appears in Network Neighborhood. Nearly everything became OK after some moments but now, some months later, still a rather strong green shade (about 8 * 8 inches) is visible in the left under quarter of the screen. Since I have a red/green deficiency (imagine how I have to do color corrections in video...) I hardly see it, but it is annoying to others. Is this repairable? Jaguar issues - Adam Wilt > When OS 10.2 emerged there was a caution on the list and some mention of > FCP > having a problem with the new Quicktime in Jaguar. Since then no word and > Jaguar is on the shelves. Does anyone have an assessment of it with FCP? > Should one buy it or wait? Jagwyre is pretty nice. I've been running it on two G4/500DPs and on my Wallstreet 466 for two weeks now with FCP 3.0, with no problems. Just put FCP 3.02 on a Jagwyre dual 1 GHz (mirrored drive doors) and have had a few instances of "unexpectedly quit" immediately upon startup; don't know if that's due to the 3.0 vs. 3.2 difference, or due to something in the new machine. Aside from that it's been fine. 3.02 is now officially approved for use with QT 6 on Jagwyre, FWIW. Cheers, Adam Wilt [Any bizarre line breaks courtesy of OS X's Mail.app. I'm hoping they've fixed that in 10.2, but I haven't yet upgraded my cube from 10.1.5 yet. Think Different!] more DVX100 - "Perry Mitchell" From: Steve Mullen "A small matter of about for Cinema Tools! Perry Mitchell" Actually, Apple has not posted any information yet. I'm expecting that since FCP will edit 23.98p that the new FireWire "service" will remove the judder frame and remap the audio. Then edit. So the real question is HOW pull-down will be added so as to be able to export interlace video. Will it be done in FCP? In CineTools? Another option, will the data of the timeline at 23.98p be written to HD or DVD for a trip to the film lab. Also, some functionality could be released as a FCP plug-in or delayed until FCP 4. I wouldn't assume anything yet. (diese posts stammen von der DV-L Mailingliste - THX to Adam Wilt and Perry Mitchell :-) [up] |
