You can preset the TC to any value, so with a bit of practice you can get it pretty close but that's not really a cigar is it! I've just finished testing a Sony DSR-1500P which does have TC in, and also an ability to read VITC off the incoming analog video. The only disappointment was an apparent inability to strip the TC out of an SDI signal. It could do it off SDTI, but not SDI. Meant that a dub from DigiBeta via SDI would need separate TC lead, which needs to be XLR to BNC for obscure historical reasons.
