Canon XL1S Test Results

Canon XL1S Test Results - "Perry"

From: Charles Molnar
The most important feature the next generation prosumer cameras can
include is computer control of all camera functions. Right now,
Canon is beholden to Sony on the Control-L features. Audio control
is totally manual - it's impossible to vary gain without shaking the
camera by adjusting manual pots. Exposure control is not possible with
Control-L. Control-L regulates tape transport, focus, and zoom.
Perhaps Canon can work around Control-L limitations by using Firewire
or USB 2.0 connections for "remote" control. All camera functions
could be superimposed over live video on a laptop PC. It's basically
a poor-man's heads-up-display. Camera adjustments while videotaping
wouldn't shake the camera when when remote inputs depend on a touch-
screen LCD display. A purpose-built remote control (like the new
Panja models) would provide smooth camera moves - smoother
than any viscous head or manual lens.
