The HV 30 is indeed still a fine camcorder, if "only not" the record would be on tape (I mean mainly the editing)
What are some affordable alternatives are there for example, to the hard drive, flash memory to record?

I hang a CITIDISK HDV s.der HV30. Absolutely no problem. But you have to split the files for longer recordings before the cut 'join' (analogous to the Firestore), since not all NLEs assemble individual files correctly. At 5:12 I had always Edius audio gaps s.end of 8 frames of a clip. To ensure an appropriate period of Citidisk too) I use an adapter NP-F960 Batteries (4-5 hrs battery life.

That is fine with the tape yet ..., but nothing in principle against memory card ... Just after the capture recording with or without scene detection on a notebook, for example, remove tape as an archive. Since May 2006 I am filming with HDV cameras, over 60 tapes now, nothing is lost.

Which, of course not 'ne alternative is (... and on top of cheaper, but somewhat more complicated): Directly via firewire into a small notebook with HDV Spilled or any NLE (for example, can capture Edius), the HDV, record. Already work with an AMD Turion 64 X2 mobile processor with 1,6 Ghz. At NLE then one has the advantage that you can use the notebook as a preview monitor. Then, however, the processor should be faster.
