DVL-Digest 1192 - Postings: Index Aspect ratios etc (was Text glow ?) NTSC monitor recommendations? OK ... PAL 16:9 to 14:9 framing in 4:3 using Prem 6/After Ef Text glow ? Aspect ratios etc (was Text glow ?) - "Perry Mitchell" From: Vidiot This look a little right, or am I way off base? MB NTSC monitor recommendations? - "Valerie Shoaps" Hi, I need to pick up a NTSC monitor for a friend in the to range for a 14". I love my JVC TM-1650SU and was all set to point him to the 1350SU, but I notice it doesn't have blue gun only mode. It does have seperate R, G and B cutoff's; I'm not familiar with that. Can I cut the red and green to 0 for setting hue and saturation? If not... Since I'm going to have to do the initial calibration for him, and this is part of my old school method of doing so, I'm now looking for any other make and model selections. Besides blue gun, 4:3 and 16:9 capability, selectable temp., Y/C and composite inputs and >500 lines of resolution are the specs I'm looking for. Thanks for any suggestions, Valerie OK ... PAL 16:9 to 14:9 framing in 4:3 using Prem 6/After Ef - "Perry Mitchell" From: Richard Measures (Real World Televisual) Wary about raising this one, but the widescreen revolution has just hit home! Were in PAL, shooting 16:9 on DSR-500, and 16:9 on DigiBeta. There are two programmes at the end of our current project, a 30sec 16:9 TV commercial for broadcast on DigiBeta, and a 4:3 PAL VHS extended version for duplication from DVCAM. To standardise the shoot, we've decided to use 16:9 and protect a 14:9 frame in all the shots, but keep the whole 16:9 frame safe and useable. That way the 16:9 TV cut is lovely, and it works when aspect ratio converted to 14:9 for UK TV terrestrial broadcast. For the VHS distribution version, we want to scale the 16:9 frame into a 14:9 letterbox on a 4:3 canvas. The UK public are used to 14:9, and this slight letterbox looks agreeable on a 4:3 TV. So ... the problem is - how? Initial attempts indicate this workflow is beyond Premiere. Best process we have so far is to edit 16:9 in Premiere (we have DVStorm, footage imports as 104x576 square pixel), then re-scale in After Effects. We can't be the first UK outfit on the list to have this challenge - any wisdom out there? Perry? Text glow ? - "Perry Mitchell" From: Al Grant Well all this talk has kinda confused newbie here. Perhaps I can get some straight answers to the following questions: 1. I am working with PAL. I want to make a Title. What image size should I start with in Photoshop? 720x576 OR 768x576 and do the resize after I have added the text? 2. If I am exporting the work to mpg format and it is to be viewed on the web/computer - do I need to worry about all this? I would assume that I can simply create a 720x576 image in PS and import to Premier? 3. What about when working with After Effects?
