AJA has released new versions of firmware for its FS-HDR real-time HDR/WCG converter and frame synchronizer, as well as Mini-Config, the software for its Mini-Converter line, and introduced the new PAK Dock Pro for the in-house PAK media of the AJA Ki Pro Quad, Ki Pro Ultra and Ki Pro Ultra Plus recorders.
Mini-Config Software 2.26.2
The new version 2.26.2 of AJA&s Mini-Config software gives AJA Mini-Converters (12G-SDI, 4K/UltraHD and other models) a number of new features. For example, HA5-12G models, HA5-4K, HA5-Plus, ROI-DP, ROI-DVI and ROI-HDMI get extended display identification data (EDID) emulation, allowing the connected source to continuously output the desired video format.

The HA5-4K models and all HA5-12G versions receive pass-through support and Dolby Digital Plus JOC (Joint Object Coding) compatibility with the update.
The 12GM, HA5-12G, HA5-4K and HA5-Plus mini converters also get easy frame rate conversion from p60 to p59.94 and from p59.94 to p60, and the 12GM, HA5-12G and Hi5-12G models get support for PsF.
AJA FS-HDR 4.1
Available now for free, version 4.1 of the firmware for AJA&s FS-HDR real-time HDR/WCG converter and frame synchronizer brings increased frame buffer depth from 6 to 20 frames, updated v1.5 BBC HLG LUTs, new NBCU LUTs, expanded closed captioning support, and a new ability to pass or translate critical ancillary data - even during a conversion.
The new features of firmware 4.1 in detail
During the pandemic, the expanded use of augmented reality and virtual cameras, which require additional processing time, has greatly increased in live productions, requiring longer sync times for other sources. In response, the FS-HDR v4.1 update increases the device&s frame buffer depth to support configurable delays of up to 20 frames.
The FS-HDR v4.1 update adds support for v1.5 BBC HLG LUTs with two new LUTs for direct-mapping and up-mapping conversions for SDR BT.2020 to HLG BT.2100, as well as improved color saturation for down-mapping conversion from HLG BT.2100 to SDR BT.709 in display light.
FS-HDR v4.1 also adds support for new NBCU LUTs, developed by NBCUniversal Media, LLC, in collaboration with Cromorama, to enable a workflow for single-master production of simultaneous HDR and SDR content at the highest possible quality. NBCU&s LUTs include SDR, HLG and PQ LUTs that maximize dynamic range and color volume in HDR without compromising core SDR broadcasts.
Also new are the capabilities for pass-through or translation of ancillary data for a variety of formats and conversions. For broadcast applications that require the use of SCTE-104 markers for ad insertion, FS-HDR now automatically passes SCTE-104 packets. FS-HDR&s new Timecode Xlator can pass through or translate additional timecode (LTC, VITC1, or VITC2). In addition, FS-HDR v4.1 expands the number of conversions that support pass-through of closed captioning.
