After Sony initially withdrew the firmware update 6.00 for the a7 IV, which was released at the end of November, version 6.01 is now available as a bug fix. It contains all the new features from the 6.x firmware but should not cause any of the problems that occurred for some users at www.reddit.com/r/SonyAlpha/comments/1paxu57/sony_a7iv_60_firmware_update_horror_story/.
After updating to v6.00, some users experienced crashes or reboot loops, rendering the camera unusable—similar to the boot loop issue with the FX3 a few years ago after the v2.00 update. On other cameras, the a7IV automatically switched to power-saving mode when the display was folded shut, even if this behavior was actually disabled.
The firmware update 6.00 or 6.01 includes various new or improved shooting and playback functions, such as the ability to display the layout of the shooting information for both horizontal and vertical orientation, and the audio level is now displayed on the screen at all times during video recording.
