Anyone who has been considering upgrading from the free version of Blackmagic&s grading, editing, compositing, and audio mastering program DaVinci Resolve to the Studio version to utilize the additional features, should act now: it has recently become available at some specialist retailers for around 260 Euros, which is about 45 Euros cheaper than directly from Blackmagic. Blackmagic Resolve - Purchase Version vs. SubscriptionUnlike the subscription models of other manufacturers, Blackmagic offers Resolve Studio as a perpetual license (purchase version). However, since September, users also have the option to[www.slashcam.de/news/single/Blackmagic-DaVinci-Resolve-Studio-ab-sofort-auch-m-19499.html](rent Resolve monthly via a license management system through Blackmagic Cloud for approximately 30 dollars), which was previously reserved only for larger companies. This, however, primarily targets users who only need the Studio version of Resolve with its additional features such as even higher resolution (i.e., greater than 4K), multi-GPU support, AI tools, and immersive video temporarily for projects.
![]() Until now, Blackmagic has not charged for any updates to either the free or paid versions of DaVinci Resolve – however, this could change in the future, as the numerous AI features in Resolve that do not run locally incur significant costs for Blackmagic. Therefore, Blackmagic might charge for future updates to the Studio version or for the use of certain AI tools. However, a shift to a general subscription model is probably not imminent – Blackmagic CEO Grant Petty has a[www.slashcam.de/news/single/Blackmagic-DaVinci-Resolve-Studio-ab-sofort-auch-m-19499.html](quite clear opinion on the matter ;-) The Differences Between Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve 20 Studio and the Free VersionThe paid DaVinci Resolve Studio version differs significantly from the free version and offers many additional features. While the free version provides all the necessary tools for editing, effects, grading, and audio processing, the Studio version brings numerous additional capabilities and tools, such as AI-powered tools (e.g., face and object recognition, automatic video reframing, advanced noise reduction, and special effects like beauty filters, deflicker, and film grain), professional HDR mastering including Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and Vivid metadata, as well as immersive video and audio with Dolby Atmos. Particularly interesting for professionals is also the support for more powerful hardware, such as multi-GPU systems and hardware-accelerated video encoding (H.264/H.265). ![]() While the free version is limited to 4K UltraHD and 60 fps, Studio allows resolutions up to 32K and frame rates up to 120 fps. Furthermore, Studio supports important professional 10-bit codecs (e.g., H.265 4:2:2, AVCHD, AVC-Intra, XAVC) as well as cinema and broadcast formats (IMF, DCP) that are missing from the free version. In terms of collaboration, only Studio offers remote monitoring and remote grading for interactive grading over distance. DaVinci Resolve Studio also includes access to professional technical support, whereas the free version exclusively includes community support. ![]() Blackmagic Training Material for Resolve Free Training Material for ResolveBlackmagic also offers an exemplary range of free training materials, such as videos and books, for DaVinci Resolve. Just last month, Blackmagic[www.slashcam.de/news/single/Blackmagic-bringt-neue-kostenlose-Trainingsbuecher--19554.html](updated the six guides, each focusing on one of Resolve&s major functional areas like grading, editing, compositing, and audio mastering, to the latest version of Resolve). Additionally, there is the comprehensive 4234-page Resolve manual, supplemented by the Resolve 20.2 New Features Guide, as well as a whole series of free training videos – some of which are also in German. ![]() deutsche Version dieser Seite: Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve Studio gibt es gerade rund 45 Euro billiger |
