Atomos has quietly and discreetly released firmware updates for both the current Ninja monitor recorders (AtomOS 12.5.0) and its Shinobi II monitor (11.06.02) and made them available for free download. This update provides the highly valued Camera Control function to the current Ninja monitor recorders (TX, TXGo, and presumably the new Ninja RAW) as well as the Shinobi II monitor. ![]() This allows central camera parameters such as Kelvin values for white balance, aperture, ISO, shutter speed, and Rec Start/Stop to be set or activated via the monitor. Additionally, status and timecode displays for the Nikon ZR have been added. For the Ninja monitor recorders, the Touch to Focus function for the Nikon ZR is also included – here is the official Touch to Focus setup video for the Shinobi II for illustration (although, according to our initial brief tests, it does not yet support the Nikon ZR via Touch to Focus): Since we are currently working on different rigging options for the Nikon ZR, this update came at just the right time, as camera operation via the control monitor makes a lot of sense in more complex rigging setups, in our opinion. We have just briefly checked both Camera Control and Touch to Focus with the combination of the Nikon ZR and the Nikkor Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ using the current Atomos Ninja TX, and both have worked flawlessly so far.
