The company Beeble has introduced a new video editing tool called SwitchX, which allows only specific aspects of a video recording to be subsequently altered—such as the lighting, background, or even props.

The principle behind SwitchX is based on the combination of original material and AI-generated content. Users define which areas of the image are to be replaced or changed using a mask. The unmasked areas generally remain unchanged but can be intelligently adapted to the new environment through the analysis of a reference image—for example, by matching the lighting mood.
Four modes are available for controlling the masks: An automatic mode independently recognizes and isolates the main subject. In manual mode, specific objects can be selected, for instance, to replace clothing while leaving the face and hands unchanged. The Fill mode captures the entire image for comprehensive redesigns, while the Upload mode allows for importing externally created masks from compositing programs like Nuke or After Effects.
A reference image serves as the visual template for the desired change. This can either be created externally or generated directly within the tool using image AI models. According to the provider, it is irrelevant whether the reference image perfectly matches the source material—SwitchX primarily extracts the lighting mood and style and transfers them to the original recording. Technical specifications such as the aspect ratio and frame rate of the source material are retained; the resolution can be set to 720p or 1080p.

SwitchX is available immediately via Beeble's cloud platform. The service is tiered into three plans: A free entry-level version allows videos up to five seconds in length and includes 90 credits per month. For ambitious users, the "Creator" plan offers 30-second clips and 540 credits for 16 US dollars per month, while the "Professional" subscription unlocks video lengths up to 60 seconds and 2400 credits for 60 US dollars monthly.
