For Astro, Architecture & Co: TAMRON 12-24mm F2.8 Ultra-Wide-Angle Zoom Lens Announced

There is a lot happening in the wide-angle sector right now – and now Tamron is introducing a particularly extreme ultra-wide-angle zoom lens. The TAMRON 12-20mm F2.8, with a constant aperture of F/2.8, supports a full-frame image circle and will soon be released for Sony E-mount and Nikon Z-mount. It is suitable for capturing landscapes, architecture, or interiors, and not least for astro-photography enthusiasts.

Sharpness is expected to extend to the corners of the image thanks to an elaborately designed optical construction (17 elements in 12 groups) featuring state-of-the-art special glass. One XGM (eXpanded Glass Molded Aspherical) lens, three GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) lenses, one XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) lens, and three LD (Low Dispersion) lenses are designed to effectively reduce distortion, chromatic aberrations, and edge softness. Effective correction of sagittal coma is intended to ensure that point light sources are rendered precisely even in the outermost corners of the frame, which is particularly relevant for night and astro-photography.
Furthermore, several coating technologies have been employed – the AX (Anti-reflection eXpand) coating is applied particularly evenly using a special vapor deposition process, which is intended to effectively reduce reflections and stray light. The second-generation BBAR-G2 coating, in turn, is designed to minimize ghosting and lens flare, even in challenging backlit situations.
The TAMRON 12-20mm F2.8 features a VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor, which is intended to enable fast, precise, and video-friendly quiet focusing. The minimum focusing distance is 0.18m at 12mm focal length and 0.28m at 20mm.
The zoom lens measures 119.3 mm in length and weighs 570g (E-mount version). Commercially available filter sheets, cut to size, can be used via an integrated filter holder on the rear of the lens. Furthermore, the TAMRON 12-20mm F2.8 offers several controls that can be individually customized via the TAMRON Lens Utility. For example, the 12-blade aperture can optionally be de-clicked.
Price and Availability
The TAMRON 12-20mm F2.8 will be available from July 30, 2026, for 1,699 euros.
