FiLMiC, producer of the popular Filmer App for smartphones, has now released a special free app for Multicam recordings on newer iPhones. The FiLMiC DoubleTake app is capable of simultaneously viewing and recording video from two of the four ( ![]() FiLMiC DoubleTake App Video recording is started by selecting the cameras whose images you want to record. You can choose between an ultra-wide-angle, wide-angle, telephoto and selfie camera (iPhone 11), whose images are shown in the preview. Then you can select the frame rate (24fps, 25fps or 30fps) of the video - due to a limitation of Apple&s Multicam API, only 1080p recording is possible. Similar to FiLMiC Pro, there is a histogram at the bottom of the image as well as focus and exposure controls. There are two different main recording modes with two sub-options each. Recording in one of the two Discrete modes creates two videos, which can then be cut back and forth between them in post production. -the Discrete mode (Shot/Reverse Shot) is suitable for e.g. dialog recordings, which work via Shot/Reverse Shot. If the iPhone is placed between the two actors, it can record both. -the Discrete Mode (Varied Rear Lense) allows the same subject to be shot with two different focal lengths at the same time. In one of the composite modes, the two shots can be mixed live in different ways (but if desired, the shots of both cameras can also be stored separately). -in Picture-in-Picture Composite mode, the image of the second camera is displayed in small format in the main video and can be moved or enlarged. - in Splitscreen Composite Mode, the images of both cameras are displayed next to each other - useful, for example, in interviews in which both conversation partners are to be displayed simultaneously. In order to obtain uniform recordings, the focus and exposure of both cameras can be easily adjusted and fixed during multi-cam recording using a crosshair. DoubleTake is available as a standalone app or as a quick launch in the upcoming new version v6.10.5 of FiLMiC Pro, scheduled for release this spring. However, it will only work under iOS 13 on newer models such as the iPhone 11 Pro Max, 11 Pro, 11, Xs Max, Xs and Xr. DoubleTake, unlike FiLMiC Pro, is free of charge and will remain so. .
