Freefly Ember highspeed camera films in 4K 800fps, 5K 600fps

Freefly introduced the MōVI M10, the first brushless gimbal 3-axis stabilizer for filmmakers, about 10 years ago - now an indispensable tool for many in their shoots. Now Freefly has set out to build the smallest and fastest camera with the most fun factor. The first attempt, Wave, has been on the market since 2020, now followed by Ember, a second, heavily modified and even faster model that can also record in Apple ProRes. However, it is also considerably more expensive.
Freefly Ember high-speed camera
Freefly Ember features a new S35 sensor (from Gpixel) with native 21MP / 5120 x 4096 (5:5) resolution, supporting high-speed recording even in 5K; a crop is applied in 4K:
The sensor is again read out via global shutter. The native ISO is 300, the dynamic range is 11+ stops, and the sensor pixels are 4.5μm x 4.5μm in size. Keep in mind, though, that we're talking about a camera for extreme slow motion here, and with those, the exposure time is forced to shrink so much that plenty of light needs to be provided for the shots.
The new cube-shaped camera body measures 100mm x 104mm x 86mm with a weight of 820g (including E-mount). Operation is largely via app, a display is not on board. Recording is again done on an internal NVMe SSD, which is more extensive this time with 4TB. As already mentioned, the 10-bit Apple ProRes codec is implemented in Ember this time. Audio recording is not possible.
This camera will also be manufactured in different batches, the first of which will be delivered in March 2023 at a base price of ,995. Numerous accessories will be offered as options, including, for example, a PL mount made specifically for Ember by KipperTie. If those who have already invested in the older Freefly Wave are interested, trade-in deals are available, and those who bought the Wave recently (30 days before the announcement) should even be allowed to trade it in for an Ember for free.
