Google Veo 3 and Veo 3 Fast: New features, 1080p support and drastic price reduction

Google has just released a major update for its state-of-the-art Video-KI Veo 3. It brings improvements to video quality, support for vertical videos in 9:16 format, and – last but not least – a drastic reduction in costs, which makes what is probably the best video AI currently available much more affordable. The new features are now generally available.

Support for Vertical Videos (9:16)

One of the biggest innovations is the support for portrait format with an aspect ratio of 9:16. This feature targets the increasing importance of vertical videos in social networks such as Instagram Reels, TikTok, or YouTube Shorts. By setting the aspectRatio parameter to 9:16 in Veo 3 or Veo 3 Fast, videos can now be generated that are directly intended for vertical playback.

1080p HD Resolution for Better Image Quality

In addition to the portrait format update, Veo 3 and Veo 3 Fast now also offer 1080p HD output, i.e. 1920 x 1080 pixels. Compared to the previous resolution of 720p (1280 x 720 pixels), this is a significant improvement, especially for applications with higher visual demands. The option is activated via the resolution parameter with the value 1080p. All videos generated with Veo contain a SynthID watermark by default to make the origin traceable.

Significantly Reduced Prices

The most important innovation, however, is of course the change in the previous price structure, which now makes the use of Veo models more affordable and in some cases more than halves the prices:
- Veo 3: The price of Veo 3 has been almost halved from ./create.pl.75 to ./create.pl.40 per second.
- Veo 3 Fast: The price of using Veo 3 Fast has been reduced even further - instead of ./create.pl.40, it now costs only ./create.pl.15 per second, which corresponds to a price reduction of over 62%.

In particular, Veo 3 Fast offers an inexpensive solution for fast generation cycles, for example, to quickly try out visual ideas.

AI Tools that Use Google Veo 3

In its press release, Google points to three projects that use Veo 3 via API for various purposes:

Mosaic: An agent-based video editing platform that uses Veo 3 to generate new video sequences with a single prompt and a starting image. These can be up to 64 seconds long and include native audio output.

- Saga: A platform for film pre-visualization that combines Veo 3 with Imagen 4 to enable automated workflows from script to storyboard - including fast iteration and high visual quality.

- Invisible Studio: Uses Veo 3 for the rapid creation of short-form content, in particular through the possibility of accelerated generation.
