Apparently not only we are facing the question if a trip to IBC 2021 this year will make sense. Currently, the case numbers in the Netherlands are so high that the country is in a "partial lockdown" at least until the start of IBC on 3.6. www.tagesspiegel.de/politik/inzidenz-hoeher-als-500-niederlande-verhaengen-neuen-teil-lockdown/27793718.html).
What this means for the trade fair is currently absolutely unclear, but the trade fair management has not yet announced a general cancellation of the presence trade fair. In the apron however already some manufacturers had excluded such as Sony or Avid a participation locally. And now Blackmagic Design has also canceled its participation at short notice. The exact wording:
IBC Update. Blackmagic Design will not exhibit at IBC 2021 due to the Dutch lockdown measures. We are disappointed, but the risk and uncertainty is too great for us to exhibit. We can&t wait to exhibit at trade shows again, but that will have to wait a little while longer.
In addition, the Netherlands, among other countries, is likely to be reclassified as high-risk area as of Sunday, which means a return trip for the unvaccinated will be a mandatory quarantine. However, we assume that the trade fair itself will only be accessible as a 2G+ event anyway.
Accompanying evening events are also not likely to take place according to the current legal situation. That&s why shortened opening hours of the fair were decided a few days ago.
We believe that after Blackmagic Design, more manufacturers will certainly cancel their participation in the fair at short notice. Also because the journey from the European foreign countries, particularly from the USA will be probably again clearly more difficult. Should the IBC 2021 still take place as a presence trade show, then certainly only with a very small selection of the otherwise usual exhibitors.
