The Canadian accessory manufacturer Shape has introduced new cage and rigging solutions for the Sony FX3/FX30 and the Nikon ZR. According to Shape, the new series, called the "Creator Rig," is aimed at filmmakers who need a secure, modular, and production-ready rigging solution for these compact cinema cameras. Although we have not yet had the new cages in hand, at first glance, we cannot detect any compromises in the otherwise high-quality Shape manufacturing. The Shape Creator Camera Cage V2 for Sony FX3/FX30 is designed as a half-cage to leave space for the Sony XLR handle. If this handle is not needed, a handle mount with an integrated NATO rail can be attached, which can be used for handles like the Shape Top Handle. Personally, we are big fans of handles that can be adjusted because this allows for better balancing of more complex camera rigs with more accessories (light, sound, etc.). Another NATO rail is integrated on the left side of the camera, which can also be used for additional handles, among other things. On the bottom, Shape offers the optional mounting of an included Arca-Swiss plate, allowing for mounting on gimbals or corresponding tripods without additional accessories. The top of the cage also features a cold shoe, and various 1/4-20 and 3/8-16 threads, including Arrilock mounting points, have been integrated on both the sides and the top. An HDMI locking solution also appears to be available with the cage. In addition to the cage-only version, Shape offers various expansion options, which include 15mm LWS systems, top handle, shoulder mount, and other options. Incidentally, Shape recently also introduced a Sony FX2 Creator Cage, which, at first glance, appears hardly different from the Sony FX3/FX30 Creator Cages (apart from the double screw mounting on the bottom) and is also said to be compatible with the Sony FX3/FX30. Shape Nikon ZR Creator Rig The centerpiece of Shape&s Nikon ZR Creator Rig is the Nikon ZR Cage, which is designed as a full cage and is currently offered for 86.45 Euros on the Shape website—here too, the Shape Cage is competitively priced compared to Nikon ZR cages from Chinese providers. The Shape Creator Camera Cage for the Nikon ZR features a handgrip contour on the right side of the camera—which we consider quite important and whose significance we also highlighted in As with the Sony FX3/FX30 Creator Cage, the Nikon ZR Creator Cage also features NATO rails on the top and sides, including various 1/4-20 and 3/8-16 threads with Arrilock mounting points. A cold shoe mount is also attached to the top. An optionally mountable Arca-Swiss baseplate and an HDMI locking option are also included with the Shape Creator Camera Cage for the Nikon ZR. In addition to the solo cage for the Nikon ZR, Shape also offers various expansion stages here, up to rod-based shoulder rigs including matte boxes. Availability and Price The Sony FX3/FX30 and the FX2 Creator Cages are currently available for pre-order. The Nikon ZR Creator Cage appears to be available now. Prices for the Sony FX3/FX30 and the FX2 Creator Cage start at 68.09 Euros. The Nikon ZR Creator Cage currently starts at 86.45 Euros in the Shape online shop. Bilder zur Newsmeldung:
