PhotoMirage is a new tool from Corel that can create moving images from a single photo. For this you place animation points over the image, which describe in which direction (and how fast) these pixels should be animated. Corel emphasizes that there is no artificial intelligence involved here, but rather a kind of optical flow algorithm. Further anchor points tell the software which pixels should remain untouched.
The program is compatible with JPEGs, RAW images and other formats such as TIFF and PNG. Since the software blurs the movement in the image, the program works best with blurred movements in images with sky or water.
The animation points are easy to drag into the image. There are also advanced options such as visibility layers, cropping and a "One-Click Smart Photo Fix Editor".
The simple export allows you to choose a social media platform directly. PhotoMirage then automatically formats the moving image to the requirements for the selected platform.
Corel's PhotoMirage runs under Windows only and costs 60 Euro as a one-time license. A similar (and cheaper) approach is followed by the
Plotagraph-App.
