Portkeys LS7P - 7

Portkeys has released a new 7" on-camera monitor, the LS7P, which stands out with its bright touch display and HDMI/SDI in and out interfaces, as well as its wireless camera control functions. These allow the settings of all connected cameras to be centrally changed via radio using other Portkeys monitors - regardless of the camera brand.

Display and Interfaces

The display of the Portkeys LS7P uses a color-calibrated 10-bit panel (8+2 FRC) with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels and a contrast ratio of 1,000:1. Thanks to its high brightness of 1,000 nits, it is suitable for daylight use and should be easy to read from the side thanks to its wide viewing angle of 80°. Conveniently, two display protection films are included to protect against scratches.

The interfaces of the LS7P include a 4K30P HDMI input, a 3G-SDI input, a 1080P60 HDMI output and a 3G-SDI output, with cross-conversion from the SDI input to the HDMI output also possible. 3D LUT output is also possible via both interfaces.

The robust housing is made of aluminum and weighs only 409 grams and offers four user-definable function keys on the top edge as well as an on/off switch, a lock key for the touchscreen and three 1/4"-20 threads in various places for different setups. Firmware updates can be installed or custom LUTs loaded or saved via USB-A port.

Monitoring Tools

The LS7P runs on Portkeys& own MOVNORM OS operating system and offers numerous professional monitoring tools such as 3D LUT monitoring including output to the HDMI and SDI outputs with up to 20 custom LUTs, Anamorph-Desqueeze with 10 standard ratios or custom values from 0.25x to 4.0x. Other functions include a freeze-frame function for saving a single frame to a USB stick for comparison with the live image, a stretch-leg tool for vertical image stretching, which can also be output via HDMI, and comprehensive focus aids (peaking, custom frame, zoom).

The tools also include RGB and Luma waveform, vectorscope, Luma histogram, zebra, customizable false color with 13 color levels (including ARRI False Color), as well as framing aids such as crosshairs, grid, guidelines, image section and audio level displays. Comprehensive monitor settings such as black level, backlight, contrast, color temperature, sharpness, chroma, brightness, hue, HDR/HLG and image rotation (horizontal/vertical) are also possible.

New Log Stops Tool

A new feature is the new "Log Stops" exposure tool, which is based on the actual f-stops of the camera signal. It automatically detects the LOG signal and divides it into different exposure zones. These can be individually displayed as zebra or false color and shown or hidden. At launch, however, only Sony cameras are supported, but more brands are to follow soon via update.

The Portkey LS7P monitor enables wireless control of many camera models from ARRI, RED, Blackmagic Design, Canon, Sony and Panasonic such as the Sony FX3/FX6, a7S III/A7C, Canon EOS C80 and C400. Parameters such as exposure time, ISO, ND filter, white balance and aperture can be controlled more conveniently directly via the significantly larger touch display of the LS7P than via the display menus of the respective cameras. The focus point can be set and moved on the monitor via touch focus.

The LS7P is also equipped with Portkeys& new One-to-Many control system, which allows users to control the settings of multiple cameras via just one monitor. A master Portkeys monitor can communicate wirelessly with up to four other compatible Portkeys monitors within a range of up to 50 meters, which also have integrated camera control functions. This allows the settings of all connected cameras, regardless of their brand, to be adjusted wirelessly from a single location.

Power Supply Options

Thanks to its power consumption of 13W, the LS7P can be operated with a Sony NP-F970 battery for up to 3.5 hours. Alternatively, it can be operated with V-Mount or Gold-Mount batteries via the supplied D-TAP-to-DC power adapter. The dummy battery plate with 8V/10W power passthrough on the rear is rotatable and enables the power supply of a wireless video receiver directly on the device.
