While other manufacturers like Seagate and Crucial launched their first PCIe Gen 5 SSDs almost two years ago, Samsung held back for a long time with its own model. This finally changes: Samsung has now introduced its first pure PCIe Gen 5 SSD (NVMe 2.0) for the consumer sector with the NVMe 9100 PRO. It combines 8th generation V-NAND with its proprietary TurboWrite 2.0 technology and will be available at market launch in March as an M.2 drive (with or without heatsink) in 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB versions. In the second half of 2025, an 8 TB model will follow – a novelty in Samsung&s consumer SSD portfolio.
![]() Samsung 9100 Pro Twice as Fast as PCIe 4.0 ModelsAccording to Samsung, the 9100 PRO achieves sequential read speeds of up to 14,800 MB/s and write speeds of up to 13,400 MB/s. In addition, random read and write accesses are specified at 2,200K and 2,600K IOPS respectively, which, according to the manufacturer, is at least twice as fast as the older 980 PRO, which uses PCIe 4.0. This positions the 9100 PRO clearly in the upper performance range of previous Gen 5 drives. Filmmakers and video professionals who frequently move large amounts of data or edit high-resolution 4K or even 8K material can therefore expect significantly shorter editing and rendering times. ![]() Samsung 9100 Pro 8 TB Model Coming LaterAlso interesting is the announced 8 TB configuration, which Samsung plans to launch in the second half of 2025. It would be the manufacturer&s first NVMe SSD with this capacity in the consumer segment and could offer even more room for large data sets for local AI projects or 8K video productions. Improved Energy EfficiencyRefined cooling and power-saving technology is said by Samsung to ensure that the 9100 PRO can maintain its high speed even under continuous load. For this, Samsung integrates a nickel-coated controller, a heat spreader on the back, and Dynamic Thermal Guard technology, which should protect the SSD from overheating and prevent performance drops. Energy efficiency has also been improved: Although the SSD is almost twice as fast as a 990 PRO when writing and reading, the power consumption only increases marginally according to Samsung – the speed-per-watt ratio is said to have even improved by up to 49 percent. ![]() Samsung 9100 Pro Price and AvailabilityThe Samsung 9100 PRO will be available from March – the 1 TB version costs 182.99 euros, the 2 TB 273.99 euros, and the 4 TB 501.99 euros. All models are offered with or without a heatsink in an M.2 form factor; versions with a heatsink come with a surcharge of around 18 euros. ![]() deutsche Version dieser Seite: Samsung 9100 Pro Serie mit erster PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD mit 8 TB |
