SmallRig will manufacture a new, custom-made camera cage for the new, small Nikon ZR. It offers a variety of mounting options for accessories such as microphones, monitors, LED lights or handles with 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threads, ARRI mounts, cold shoe mounts and NATO rails, and is compatible with Arca-Swiss quick-release plates to enable quick changes between tripod and handheld operation.
SmallRig Cage for the Nikon ZR
The cage can be upgraded modularly: starting from a minimal version consisting only of an L-shaped base plate with a lateral bulge as a handle, up to a complete cage with an upper handle and optionally an additional ergonomic, continuously 360° rotatable side handle. Everything together weighs approx. 610g, without the side handle it is approx. 350g.
The cage, made of CNC-milled aluminum, is mounted on the Nikon ZR via a secure three-point lock. Optionally, a special HDMI and USB-C cable clamp can be attached, which is intended to ensure a secure cable connection for stable data transmission.
The SmallRig cage - like the camera itself - is not yet being delivered; it is expected to be available in November. Prices apparently start at 41.90 euros for the base plate, a cage kit including top handle and cable clamp costs around 73.90 euros.
