Video/Audio AI Integrated: Adobe Premiere Pro - New Generative Media Tool Creates Video Directly in the Timeline

Adobe is expanding Premiere Pro (Beta) with a "Generative Media Tool," which allows users to create AI-generated video clips and sound effects directly within the sequence, eliminating the need for external tools. In addition to Adobe&s own Firefly model, partner models such as Google Veo, Kling, and Luma are available for generating audio and video.

With the new Generative Media Tool, currently in the beta stage, Adobe is continuing the integration of generative AI into Premiere Pro. It allows users to select a timeline area directly in the editing window and describe the desired new content—either a video clip or a sound effect—via a text prompt or clip reference. The result appears as an editable clip directly in the sequence, without the need for cumbersome exporting, third-party software, or re-importing into Premiere.

Workflow directly in the timeline

After selecting an area, the "Generative Task Bar" opens—a floating control bar for prompt entry (see above), model selection, and reference images. For video generation, frames from your own sequence can be used as a visual reference, which is practical if a shot needs to match existing material in terms of look or composition. Adobe also promises that model options will automatically adapt to the project&s sequence settings; i.e., resolution and frame rate are mapped to the closest value supported by the model.

For generated sound effects, you can optionally record your own voice to control timing and intensity, allowing the effect to be generated in sync with the visual material and the desired audio progression. The generated media is saved in a project-specific "Generation" folder and organized in a "Generation History" bin. An AI badge on the clip allows you to reopen the prompt and references of a previous generation and reload the task bar with the original data.

Model selection and costs

According to Adobe, Firefly and the partner models Google Veo, Kling, and Luma are available for video, while sound effects are generated via an in-house Firefly audio model. A separate subscription with the partner providers is not required; generation is handled via existing Creative Cloud credits, the consumption of which varies depending on the model and settings. Business users will have to be patient for now: according to Adobe, access to some of the partner models is currently limited to individual user subscriptions, while additional checks are still underway for business plans.

Data protection and Content Credentials

Generation is exclusively cloud-based; an internet connection is mandatory. Adobe emphasizes that prompts, uploaded reference material, and generated content are not used to train their own or partner models.
