Apple has just released new versions of its editing software Final Cut Pro (12.2), as well as the compositing tool Motion 6.2 and Compressor 5.2. FCP receives minor improvements, Motion gets improved stability and bug fixes—Compressor, however, Apple&s transcoder for video and audio formats, loses support for several formats. Final Cut Pro 12.2The new features in  Final Cut Pro 12.2 are rather minor: the new version introduces a new video tutorial that demonstrates how to use the Magnetic Timeline for fast and precise editing. In addition, the startup time when opening Final Cut Pro has been reduced when many Audio Units are installed, and a bug has been fixed that occasionally caused Final Cut Pro to quit when adjusting the zoom level in the timeline while beat detection was enabled. Here is our practical test of the new AI tools in Final Cut Pro 12.0. Motion 6.2The update to Motion 5.2 is sparse: it contains only unspecified stability improvements and bug fixes.  Apple Final Cut Pro Magnetic Timeline Tutorial Compressor 5.2The update to version 5.2 of Compressor brings no new features, but instead removes support for several codecs, specifically for H.264 in Blu-ray encoding, for encoding H.264 interlaced video, Dolby Digital, and for encoding to AVC-Intra on Apple Silicon. One can only speculate about the reasons for the removal—Apple is likely just cutting ties with old, rarely used features or codecs and possibly saving on license fees (for H.264/Dolby Digital/Panasonic&s AVC-Intra). At least this time, unlike the removal of the DVD and Blu-ray burning function in Compressor 4.8, Apple has documented the cuts.
