Video editing meets VFX: Magix sells Vegas Pro, Sound Forge, and Acid Pro to Boris FX

Boris FX has acquired several video and audio software products from the German company Magix for an undisclosed sum, including the video editing programs Vegas Pro (formerly Sony Vegas) and the audio tools Sound Forge and ACID. As early as June of last year, Boris FX had already purchased the music tools Sequoia, Samplitude, and Music Studio from Magix.
With this acquisition, Boris FX aims to acquire new AI technology and expand its product portfolio: Sound Forge and ACID Pro are intended to bolster the audio and music offerings, while Vegas Pro will significantly expand the existing tools for video editing and content creation. Previously, the focus had primarily been on plug-ins and specialized tools for visual effects, compositing, and the like (which had already been expanded in recent years through the acquisition of the tracking software Mocha Pro).
With Vegas Pro, Boris FX can now offer its own "host application" for its plug-ins for the first time, which can naturally be integrated in a completely different way—namely, seamlessly and directly into the functional scope.
However, the CEO of Boris FX also emphasized in his press release that the existing (plug-in) products will continue to be offered for various platforms and host programs (presumably to preempt fears that they might only be developed for their own video editing software on Windows in the future):
"Boris FX has never been a single-host plug-in company, and this acquisition strengthens that commitment. We will continue to support every major platform and host application as we always have, while our combined development teams accelerate innovation by bringing shared AI technology across our entire product line." (Boris Yamnitsky, President and Founder of Boris FX)
Boris FX has already introduced the new version, Vegas Pro 2026, featuring support for ProRes RAW as well as new integrated tools—more on that in a separate news item.
