Bester Videorecorder für alte S-VHS Bänder?

Best for old S-VHS VCR tapes?

Frage von derron:
Dezember 2005

Hello,

Unfortunately, my search brought no matching results - most probably already have a VCR .. ;)
So the following problem:
Our S-VHS VCR (Panasonic NV-HS900) made up only a bad picture.
Since I, as a Christmas present our views about 5-15 years old S-VHS tapes to archive wanted, I did once a test today .. Shock!
The tapes have already suffered very long I can not wait.

Now my questions:
- Are there any S-VHS recorder, a built-in error correction are particularly good (or something similar, if sowas at all) exist?
- Is it worth possibly, to repair to the NV-HS900 (optical heads look pretty rough. Is there ever) nor parts for it?
- What does a professional digitization at about 30 tapes?
- Is useful as one more equipment Dazzle DVC120 DA converter?
- Is the built-in DA converter of a better digicam? (I have good experience with time relative to the analog-to-in a Sony D8 camcorders)
- How good are TV cards (with integr. Mpeg Encoder) with analogue-in?

Since that time my father has invested exclusively in S-VHS equipment, of course I want as much as possible rausholen from the tapes yet.

Would I be pleased about suggestions on your part!

Greetings,
Derron

Hello Derron

the VCR is in addition to a faulty A / D converter is often the weakest link in the chain for digitization. Since the outbreak of the truly commendable Geizzeit SVHS recorders are unfortunately extinct. Maybe you can help in this case, eBay and a professional shop.

Hi Mark,

Many thanks for your detailed response (and the links)!
Yes, with the good feeling I have had VCRs synonymous (previously called in the media market because they have just a Panasonic SV121 there, I will look at me but once.)

Canopus synonymous I look exactly again. This indeed seems to be a fine part, at least according to the description.
When I think about what my Daddy has spent time s.Money for S-VHS equipment (Cam, VCR, ...), is the part still almost as favorably by .. if it delivers what it promises.

I have again investigated with respect to my TV card - could it be that is not all that bad?:

Similar to a TV card KNC One TV Station DVR with integr. Philips tuner. Encoding of the MPEG video encoder Philips acquires an integrated chip (SAA6752).

On your last link:) I'll come back again soon. By Christmas this must be done not necessarily. (I was always good at printing coupons;))

Greetings,
Ronny

Antwort von Markus:

Hello Ronny,

The ADVC-300 can not perform magic, of course, but in Comparison to other A / D converters sometimes you see a clear difference. Incidentally, I have the device itself in action. :-)

If your TV card can produce high-quality MPEG2, and you want to burn the images directly to DVD, you can try it this way, of course. Then remains to be seen whether the sound (via the sound card?) Synchronously, or whether he is running away with time. - Perhaps you have already tested this by now?

I think it's good that you have a Comparison with "correct" SVHS have equipment. Many amateur videographers can only see the entry prices for camcorder (<300 ¬) and send everything else out of it. And then they wonder why their USB video grabber, "which cost 25 ¬ to say and write," makes problems and provides a poor quality. ;-)

Antwort von Erich:

Hello!
When Panasonic NV-SV121 a digital Time Base Corrector (TBC) is already installed. So far I only have experience with standard VHS overdubs. When A / D converter, I use the ADVC-110. At VHS, the results were ok (resolution, colors) steadiness. The quality is definitely the best, as with any other recorder, which I had previously owned. each price around 250 euros.
Greeting!
Erich

Antwort von derron:

@ Erich: I'm really positively surprised of the NX-SV121. The image quality synonymous of the oldest tape (of about 1991) is very good. It can be seen virtually no interference.
So either the VCR or optimizes the tapes are as good but much better preserved, when I first took .. * freu *
Might benefit from further information that the org. VCR, which recorded with the tapes, a Panasonic was synonymous ..

Sun. Now I have spent the night to digitize the test with the resources available to .. and is doing now disillusionment ..
@ Markus: You have fully and completely right - DVR120 this Billig-D/A-Wandler Dazzle is müllreif, at least in the S-video mode.
Luckily, I only lent me the part ..

My hardware MPEG encoder card brings with 6Mbit Although very good results, but if I remember wanting to prune the data stream and encode again, probably a few more losses to come.
Then I'll do to me now but seriously considering the mentioned Canopus converter.
Only slowly I'm afraid that the whole degenerates. Because then I'll need again in the hundreds of GB of free disk space area .. !? And what codec, which filter .. then I guess .. etc.

I can already see, I'll do some evenings and nights to have .. ;)

One more question for archiving:
Are there any good DVD blanks, which will definitely have a long shelf life?
And a modern hard drive has a lower shelf life in terms of data integrity, right?

Greetings and thank you for your answers!
Ronny

Antwort von derTHOMMESisses:

Hi Ronny,

if you can connect your Digital8 s.den pc, take it as the A / D converter. IMHO makes a good 25MBit/sec- DV signal. It's still better than all the MPEG-2 encoder in 4-12MBit/sec-Bereich. Vo all, if thou wilt not cut. The sound is then digitized synonymous reasonable (48KHz / 16Bit) - again better than most real-time MPEG encoder in the area.

Disk space: approximately 12 GB / hour. So, ne external USB2 or FW-HDD with 250 GB is 20 hours. If you already selectively during digitizing (ACTION) always recommend that you should get there with them.

Blank DVDs: Go assumes that you have the copy after 5-7 years on a new medium. I know that I am very conservative, but I've already made in the CD segment bad experience that good brand synonymous blanks after 4 years were no longer legible. The archive area are DVD-R or + R eh a bad reputation.

By the way:
The ultimate archive medium's not stop there. If synonymous would hold the blank 20 years, who still has a player? Take your example with the S-VHS - there's the long synonymous anymore. Other video systems such as 1 "B or C are oderBetamax, VCR and Video2000 been synonymous only copy still in specialist firms. The tapes have often been treated and" baked "to make it playable at all. This is of course very expensive - so we must data copy time. The advantage of a digital copy of this course that you can create a 1:1 copy. The starting material should then take a conventional encoder is at least very common, or at best, open source, so that the later in other programs still can not import. DVCPRO50 is as of Panasonic. If they do not want that the next codec exists, there's no stop-license for Apple Final Cut Pro or other NLE's that can still DVCPRO50.

hope this helps.

Greeting

thommes

Hello Ronny,

that there is in fact: The DVD-RAM has a shelf life of 30 years, she had to prove in tests to obtain a license as an archive medium.

Lebensdauer:
Die DVD-RAM hält mindestens 30 Jahre. Diese lange Zeitspanne war schon bei der Spezifikation vorgesehen, um gesetzliche Vorgaben für Archivmedien einhalten zu können." (Quelle: Wikipedia).

Antwort von MiXMaster:

Hiho .. going through unlocked Analog-In, I once had tested some time ago and found the quality synonymous not bad. Only I do not have this cam more (was stolen us) .. Unfortunately that was not really bad ..
And as far as I know, the newer cams can not so easily unlock. A Panasonic NV-GS120 (which I have here) and certainly not because someone accidentally or has other information?
I once tried to get their hands s.den Canopus ADVC300. If the quality is not significantly better than with the D / A converters of the D8-Cam, I'd probably bid for a second hand.

With the blanks is indeed truly a joke!
But thanks for the info with the DVD-Ram, Mark, because I want to me (even to buy a new burner, perhaps) from the Aldi Nord the next week, which must then be able Ram synonymous.
As with the variants in-a-Box, and normal (or whatever it's called) is - can the DVD Burners deal with them?
This variant is synonymous Ram really good only for archiving,
normal DVD player does not deal with it, right?

Sorry, that now everything here, "little" off-topic will be .. ;)

Greetings .. And many thanks for the info, this is a great forum here!

BTW: An MPEG file must always be re-encoded when parts handled? (Or you could encode only the "interface" only?)

Hello Ronny,

I have two of Panasonic DVD recorder to record both on DVD-RAM (-RW and-R). On the PC, I have no burner, synonymous with RAM version (especially since even with Cartridge! Can read) or write.

Anyone know if you s.PC the format of the DVD-Video synonymous to a DVD-RAM write, or whether a standalone DVD recorder that can be synonymous Picture-/Tonträger then reflect?

If None to report - no later than next but I can you answer this question:)

@ Markus:

DVD-RAM is still synonymous UDF. The Video-TS folder You can burn egalwohin what. It just depends on whether the player is RAM. Some - especially DVD recorder can (of course the first ones able to record themselves on RAM). But surely you are not in such matters: the RAM is not to my knowledge, been adopted by the DVD consortium as a standard. Stop is more 'ne archive disc for computer use.

Try to mamn's yes times - if it does not work - delete ...

Let's just say so, a software that wg. All of a section re-encoded, is not decent. However, I know of no other than Cuttermaran synonymous MPEG2 editing software.
