can it be that the DOF is created by compositing and blue screen? The Edges of Picture impression and look kinda like it. Otherwise, very chic.

at 0:00:40 Mario Adorf is seen briefly with the entire hall - so I think that would be provided in the postproduction been more effort than just going to the Hall

I am of the opinion that it was done in postproduction. Looks somehow like this. The background moves slightly differently than the person.
