The Blu-Ray (for BDMV) standard supports a range of resolutions and frame rates ranging from 1920x1080 and 1440x1080 on 1280x720 down to 720x480 or 720x576.

For primary current is in the Standard: 1920x1080 or 1440x1080 are both progressive as synonymous Skip modes. 1280x720 is always progressive. The legacy modes 720x576 and 720x480, there is only interlaced. It will be as synonymous NTSC PAL frame rates. Supported codecs are MPEG-2, MPEG-4 AVC and SMPTE VC-1.

However, there may be players who Resolutions and frame rates outside the accepted standards.

As for the DVD is in the Blu-ray disc, a regional code implemented is related to, for example, that a US-bought Blu-ray Disc players in Europe can be used. In practice, however, many companies abandon partially or fully on an implementation of the regional codes. This means that at the moment about 70% of the available movies on Blu-ray disc have no regional limitation.
