Infoseite // Codec for archiving / MPEG4 convert again?

Frage von Fl4sh:

Hello!

I would like to briefly explain my point of departure.
I was just over a freiviertel years ago with my class to study tour in Rome. In the days entstaden 5 DV tapes à 90min. Each tape is 20 GB in size, that is devouring all the information about 100GB.
I was responsible for the shooting and cutting the videos jurisdiction. I've done that Abi is almost done and I want the thing finally quit times.
I would now like all the tapes to archive to DVD, because I need the space mitlerweile. I have so s.1 DVD per tape (thought perhaps synonymous 2DVDs).
On tape I can not archive, since I myself do not own DV Cam. The Cam was one of the school, as well as the tapes (which is now certainly have s.einigen posts are overwritten. For example, by boring school performances;))

My question now, of course: what codec to use?
It is indeed of codecs that the GOP (? Discouraged encode) procedures because they are not to leave or bad, post-process.
Do not think you know that may at some future Programs like Premiere synonymous with handling such formats? Theoretically, it must be possible, and it was by the previous, temporary render the B and P frames into I frames. Otherwise, one could surely the MPEG4 material again converted back to DV format and then re-cut Frame-accurate, right? Is the quality lost this much?

Otherwise, I've read something from the MJPEG codec. What is herewith all about? Pros and cons?

Generally, I do not think I would ever again rumschneiden much of it. Perhaps in 10 years nem class reunions, etc. I want to delete it but not everything, as beautiful scenes and stories were recorded, which I just could use in my "7-hours at 45-minute" cut not.

Thanks for your help

Do not you need, you've got the originals in the best quality to MiniDV ... I thought, until I read here:

Evil errors! Were about ¬ 10 because no new tapes? It is essential that Add 5 new tapes played over and over? * * kopfschüttel

My tip save: Try it! Now! ;-)

Everything else is in fact with a lot of work, quality loss, and round-Herkonvertiererei synonymous and may a lot of frustration connected. Other versions see here: 10 GB Convert AVI to considerable MVCD?

MPEG2 synonymous in your case seems to be the best solution, though I would collapse, perhaps for editing purposes with 8 Mbit / s CBR and WAV audio. - But before you relevantly this way, go and save the MiniDV tapes! Indeed, there are no more cost data with such a good life. ;-)

Hello!

So: first thanks for the quick response.
I will then seek times my teacher and ask if the tapes still exist.
(All anyhow because I was in Rome (even the absence of bands due to the teachers probably thought a tape is sufficient for many days;)) one or two tapes have drawn on laptop.)

However, I need an archiving on DVD (ie in addition, or no longer available for the tapes).
In my eyes, MPEG4 is the best. If the loss in quality really that great, if I 1 1 / 2 hours to encode 4.7 GB and then eventually the entire walk back into an editable format? Were it not better quality than if I now walk round in MPEG2?

've been thinking again.
I can save a maximum of 3 tapes because orsprünglich only one tape was available and we bought 2 more in Rome. Shit ... : - /

Why?

Antwort von Fl4sh:

So it looks like the format with the best compression for best quality. Only downside is that I-, B-and P-Fram process, which makes it impossible to reprocess, right?

I would be very easy to convert into an editable format, if I (if any) will ever again was cut off??

MPEG4 compresses well, that's true. But is synonymous quality still as good as with a normal MPEG2 and the quality is relatively good considering the immense compression? - And how can we cut back MPEG4 or converted back to DV-AVI?

Why do not try this a try and make your own experiences? Everything else I've already written up next (or linked. This maybe the info that belongs synonymous DivX MPEG4). ;-)
