only the VLC player ...

The codec is part of Final Cut Pro, which has been acquired from books where HDV material. Ordinary HDV 1080p25 in Quicktime wrapper.
VLC that gambling is still great - and you can export it to another format that is agreeable to you.

An HDV in Quicktime "I've already synonymous nut to crack. Happy again for you:
1) Convert s.MAC (; free when one is around)
2) MPEG2 plugin now and hoping that Quicktime can not play the file in Windows (and then it can be synonymous, most editing programs)
3) The file request in a reasonable Codec, Avid DNxHD or ProRes if necessary.

s.Mac convert to ProRes, then it'll import synonymous with Adobe CS4 and Media Composer.
