Self-DVD's do not have the life squeezed purchase of DVD's. I do it this way:
1. Only the highest quality brand blanks used. I have good experience with Verbatim made.
2. I always burn with half the maximum burning speed.
3. Each DVD image I'm also still safe on an external hard drive.

Keep the DVDs in complete darkness at temperatures around 20 °. Brightness, or even direct sunlight kills everything self is whether CD or DVD.
Verbatim is a very good recommendation. Greed is not cool.
The burning speed, I even down to 1x.
Write to the burning date on the DVD. After five years I would look at the data umzukopieren. On an external disk in addition to externalise the images is a good idea.

I can not confirm. I know the same problems with CD's in general, and synonymous with audio CD's. In times of C't was an article on the issue. They have to burn half the speed advised and discouraged in principle with 1x to burn. Since then I've let me no trouble, either with CD's or DVD's with.

Hzerlichen Thanks s.Alle who have given me tips, enough about the topic book to write. I use for some time Light Scribe CDs / DVDs, in order to avoid the labels. Supposedly, they are synonymous better. Thanks again! Ingeborg Vaz
