Infoseite // Digitized video 8 => 704x576 => black borders!?

Frage von Gunnar P.:

Hi,

have old Video8-tapes digitized by a newer CC + and then transferred to the computer via Firewire. Now I have the clips for right and left a black border. Can this mean that old analogue cameras video8 centers are not 720x576 but 704x576?

Now I have 2 options I suppose they get away
- Zoom in a bit
Crop --
What I am not quite Raff is the impact of the difference between the two methods in the final rendering result? Is the result, perhaps the same?

Gruss
Gunnar

That is not the full width and height is completed, is in many (synonymous digital) camcorders so. That means nothing. When playing the black stripes should disappear in the overscan area of the TV.

Crop these areas you should only be if you want to optimize the video for playback on the PC monitor.

Thanks for the reply. In 4:3-tube, you'd be right, but not with 16:9 plasma / LCD 's. They have only a very little or no overscan ...

So once again affect the question of how the different possibilities ... l

In this case, only helps to neaten the edges by Drüberlegen of black masks, so that they no longer disturb on the screen.
Zoom in is synonymous, of course, but should bring some quality loss because of the scale with him. If in doubt, try it.
Crop Simply does not work, because you will need for DVD 720 x 576 pixels.

Umm, could be that I stand on the line ... ;-), But
If I + cropper again rausrender than 720x576 I have the DVD-compliant format (704x576, incidentally would be synonymous DVD-compliant).

And again: What would be the difference to zoom in. When zooming, I puffs up a bit) on (slight loss of sharpness. If this happens when cropping + will not render at 720x576 synonymous ...?

Exactly. Crop and extrapolated back to default size is the same as zooming.
What I had proposed () to avoid the zoom would be a black bar insert - which is only necessary if the existing after the digitizing edges are dirty.

Quote: incidentally, would be synonymous 704x576 DVD-Compliant You may have to 704x576 Crop and bring it directly to DVD, but then the picture is slightly drawn into the Width. 352x576 would be synonymous to go. ;)

Have now features a short clip with the 3 different options carefully considered in PP + overlaid ....

- Pruning without Zoom: giving a clip with black borders
- Crop with Zoom is a clip without black borders, but with slightly distorted face in the general
- Only zoom (without cropping) is a clip without black borders + no distortion in the Width.

So in this case, probably the best solution, the Zooming ...

This is not true. Also consider the flat-screen TVs overscan. Otherwise, the owners of VHS recorders were not too happy with all the (sudden visible) image disturbances in the border area. ;-)

No, that would even be the worst solution. By doing this you that is destroying the fields, after which each line of an image must be interpolated. You have criticized even the loss of sharpness as a result.

"Gunnar" wrote: - Pruning without Zoom: giving a clip with black borders
I think this is the best method because it involves the image content is not altered and the border area later anyway s.Television no longer visible.

No, that would even be the worst solution. Namely, that you may destroy the fields ...

Why the fields are destroyed when zooming? When cropping with no zoom? Like I said, when cropping the picture with zoom is easily drawn into the Width - making faces at not good ... The differences in sharpness are so minimal that it's hard to see ...

If you, the method with the black edges for the best half, but you see them on a 16:9 TV Tray ... And that's not exactly titillating, right?

In both cases, the fields are destroyed. Further up the talk of the "pruning without zoom was" not the "Crop with Zoom." ;-)

The lines of each video field have clearly defined positions, which move during zooming, and thus may even fall on other fields.

Your statement suggests that you have not tried it. Do this once and then tell me whether you see the cut away the edge, or whether in fact he did not perhaps in Overscanbereich the TV is gone? And if you actually recognize some of trimming: You feel a black image line that is right or bottom edge previously mentioned, really disturbing, noticeable? ;-)
