When GoPro you can not even see the detail, and because it is a prime lens, you tend to have higher intensity, because in the dark but wegsuppt eh, with the zoom makes little sense. If you do posts instead of 720p to 1080p, you have less wide; do not know if this will help you.
I do not want you in the price range was comparable with zoom can get, but I think for 1.5 k habs as a Sony.

How about an alternative with a conventional camcorder, the Super Mini category? A SonyCX115 for example, costs with wide-angle converter little more than a GoPro and meets all your criteria. Replay's can confirm safe ;-)

It depends, maybe you can find comparison tests ..
The question is what you want. The GoPro is very good (by day) great pictures, cheap accessories, synonymous with usable water and you do not need camera support. But just no display and little "comfort". Other Action Cams are sometimes just pure Cams or deck, you need a cam to record (via composite or so). And a display you have there synonymous limited. Other action cams are more expensive or perhaps less useful (Wide Anglebei the GoPro is already great).
I see the GoPro their applications and unmatched for its price.

Tzz ... you ask in general whether there is an alternative to the GoPro ...
More generally, there are certainly a few alternatives. But you can not expect the forum to let you list all the alternatives.
A bissl own investigation here in the forum or on various search engines can often help to get an overview.
And the Contour I mentioned as an alternative, which is often associated with the GoPro listed.
The GoPro is for the purpose is to fulfill them quite well - as long as enough light is available.
