On my old (1994) Handycam can be seen in the viewfinder
And then synonymous dark vertical bars on the film,
Of growing weaker left to right.
The camera has been lying some time in the closet (approx 2years).

Has anyone any idea what's the problem?

this is understandable. If you are not in another (eg, digital) want to invest your camcorder, you can play the synonymous analog Video8 recordings will not be many options. I got the same problem as you have then a friend of a tip.
There is a company (www.fireshield.de), which convert your old movies and save them onto DVD with your menu. I did this and am very zufrieden.Kann finally comfortably watch my movies on DVD.

I have the Sony CCD-TR808E synonymous and have them connected via a video grabber with the PC. Can now chat with it or do similar. The problem is when the camera is in standby, so you can see the visual output via the S-video, but it does not take on, then turns the camera after about 10 minutes s.and the picture is black.
