This is not a single effect.
The movies is a sequence of several compositions. Each composition has its own imagery and the imagery applied effects.
AE tutorials abound on the net and in books. A good series of books is of Trish and Chris Meyer.

In Photoshop, composed by planes, then in afterfx or insert where ever synonymous and show each element via an animated mask.
