Infoseite // Long-term archiving of DV?

Frage von Reinhard S:

Hi,

I've started some 15 years ago with the shooting and DV editing in DV and have it (in a lot of family films; hpts. accumulated leave) - of course, initially on VHS, but I have the ready-cut films synonymous saved on DV '. VHS is long dead - and I'll do 'I thought, how can I get the movies to the children - and there are her childhood memories.

I use the movies and eventual capture of DV tape to correct errors of the original tapes must be clear. But then what? At first I thought Blu-ray would be the solution - apparently are, however, WD-TV, etc. reasonable long term. Right?

The question is, archiving in what format? If I-Read the DV tapes, did I - with the exception of the DV compression - lossless (; Canopus) AVIs. Which can probably start the WD-TV or similar, future players nothing. (Convert; Lossy) in MPEG-4? Or there's a (; lossless) format, which is similar to the future as MPEG?

Thx,
Reinhard

PS: I 'I'd soon get an update again current Edius.

The question of Archvierung today is really just more of an organizational and no longer a question of storage medium. Most recently, the need has painfully experienced the Cologne city archives, where it has apparently been very few displaced scanned documents. So culpable carelessness.
That means generally multiple copies of one and the same document s.verschiedenen places, and timely conversion into current format.

The tape is already a super backup eh! another 1-2 backups have gschrieben like domain and it can only be more of a collapse of the magnetic field of the earth be responsible for data loss!

Perhaps a word about the storage medium itself is not suitable for DVD and Bluray Archvierungszwecke because they grow old too fast. In this regard, there was a Beinahekatastrophe in the German Federal Archives, which is generally saved anything long term on those disks.
The only truly durable medium is the good old photographic film on the silver is professionally developed, however, synonymous only if it is carefully stored in air-conditioned rooms.

Stone tablets to keep several 10,000 years - only cost a lot.

I personally use DVD as a repository, however, synonymous quality blanks. I have still some DVDs that I burned 2002 and currently they are running properly. Whether they decompose there due 2012, I do not know, but I have the same things on the HTPC.

Most likely the hard drive of the HTPC is more likely to die, so keep me in the end only my DVDs.

PS: Quite paranoid can burn synonymous two. And then, synonymous only max. 4 GB, since the edges of the panes age faster than the rest

Raid1 and the like 2x .. in different boxes / PCs
lasts forever and costs nearly nothing!
dan aktualliesieren every 10 years to keep forever!
Why 4 plates should give up the spirit?
I think that one because after 50 Jahrne still can rausladen 0 and 1's!

The electronics pulls himself up - not the discs themselves will then be anschmeißen the plate and the controller no longer wants to because the built-up parts have long since passed away.

That is the problem of hard disks as a long-term archive.

When you build an archive daily running, then a Raid 1 is obviously not a problem. I'm still here since 2002, data lying around on the plate, the dead recovered so far have three hard disks, Raid 1, thank.

TupperDose - DV tapes clean - safe - Done

You synonymous your videos before that time as original copy on DV and convert movies into MP4, and they say, then again with DV streaming Softwear as a file to a DV tape to write (; Can you do the rest, with all files of possible then to DV ca fit 13 GB)

DV streaming Softwear fare is about $ 50 and, it takes only a DV camcorder with Firewire and DV tapes.

With such approach, however, one should exercise caution. Unlike usual prof. DV Cassette Tape backups are much more prone to errors. That makes (for video files, so DV) not a big problem for all because there is an error correction, but can be fatal for normal data.

Yes that is consistent, I perso. sit on a DAT streamer of HP - cartridges are more expensive but that's all right.

Winrar QuickPar but should be used and still be nothing that happens to the data.

pleasant it would! I have my oven must procure a tape because old tapes lost the magnetic layer separated from the plastic / were wet, were bacterially contaminated, which always synonymous.

Thus gehts then copy again, then Schultz!

Definitely the stock is (s.sich in a controlled atmosphere, temperature / humidity) of a safe>> way. But certainly not the safest, which does not exist! And frankly I would be as a global data loss if not ..... sorry again-picture-books live music and theater, would play the role that they have lost.
Eventually it turned ausgespeichelt! Now I can not even hear music anymore, because all of sowas sounds like modest, there are digital and compressed, I can hear is live! And there are, unfortunately, synonymous not so much good news .... oh just forget it ..
